About
After working in the fashion industry in Los Angeles as a trend forecasting associate for WGSN, the global authority on consumer and design trends, Katie returned to the Central Coast to continue her education and to lead art direction for a local music and arts festival event company, Luvlab Productions, behind Big Surreal, The Top, and other community events.
During this time, she aligned her art with her personal ethics of taking care of our planet and all who call earth home. Katie has explored the merging of natural and repurposed materials and finds it to be a fulfilling creative challenge to find new ways to use things that may have otherwise ended up at the landfill. This discovery led to her artist residency at the Monterey Regional Waste Management District, where she created a body of work using recovered materials from the landfill.
Following her enrollment in various natural building workshops, Katie's interest was peaked; working with the natural landscape and earthen materials fuels her creative fire. Finding that earthen construction was the intersection of eco-minded art, form, and function inspired her to seek out opportunity to join the worldwide community of natural building. She found her place at Community Rebuilds in Moab, Utah, an organization that empowers locals with the opportunity of home ownership by offering energy-efficeint housing built using sustainable materials and practices.
Aside from her various art and building experiences, Katie has worked many customer service and sales jobs where she learned skills and communication techniques that still influence her work and collaboration with both teams and clients today.
Katie is from Monterey, and has spent most of her life on the Central Coast of California. She has been involved with various art programs and organizations throughtout the area for most of her life. She holds an associate of arts degree in in Visual Communications from the Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising (FIDM) and a bachelor's degree in Visual and Public Art from California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB).
